A lot of stations around here are going to it. Best advice is to just plan your gas purchases, swing through your bank's ATM at some point during the day you plan on filling up, and drop that cash straight into El Gasman's hands. The bigger your tank, the faster you save, especially if you have a bank/credit union that offers free ATM service. With my 20-gallon tank, I like to think of it as a "get a tank for free" program -- ten cents a gallon x 20 gallons = $2.00 per fill, which might not sound like much, but when you're filling up a couple times a week, it could easily add up to a free tankfull or two per quarter. Pretty nice reward for minimal effort, IMO.

In my area in the last few weeks gas stations have started charging 7 cents or higher PER GALLON to pay with a Credit card. The prices seen from the road on the huge banner signs are always the lower cash price, and there will be a smaller, often hidden sign showing the CC prices. I am sure that everyone, like me, want to know what the prices on Gas Buddy refer to. I don't want to drive across town to find the great price I saw on Gas Buddy is cash only. ... also just think how much cash you need to carry to fill up at today's prices. And how long before the bad guys figure out there is a lot of cash at gas stations?

They'll have a sign somewhere posting the higher Credit Card price, much smaller, and maybe even hidden by a bush or something. We are going to use ARCO if we have to pay cash to get the best price, they have always had LOWER prices than the other stations prices, and they have never hidden the fact that they don't take CC. I never minded paying a couple of cents more at the other gas stations for the convenience of paying by credit card, but now their cash price is higher than at ARCO and the CC price even higher still ( and hidden which bugs me). I have no affiliation with ARCO or any other gas station, I am just looking for the best price I can, to fit in my budget.

They have not reduced the price for cash, they have raised the price for credit cards. Not a surprise. I don't like that they only show the lower cash price on their banner signs. The credit card prices are much smaller and the sign cannot be seen until you are at the pump.

It's only a bonus for the gas buyer if you have cash. The reason why gas stations do the cash/credit prices is it's cheaper for them when you pay with cash. All credit card companies charge fees to companies that accept their cards. So everytime we swipe, the gas station must pay a fee to the credit card company.

It costs too much in cash to always carry large amounts of money for fill ups. i applaud the places who offer both at a lower rate than the standard 10c higher credit charge.

So it might not be greed by corporations, it could be greed by people allowed to bend the rules when there is nobody there to police them. Welcome to the real world

All that internet sites like Gas Buddy do is make it possible for gas stations to advertise freely and run their prices without any competition from others gas stations across town whatsoever, why else do they all move their prices up or down in unison every day? To prove my point, if Gas Buddy really promoted competition, don't you think that the price of a litre or a gallon of gas would've dropped to half the price by now? All Gas Buddy does is enable gas stations to advertise and post false advertisements, usually posted by the owner, or his or her son, daughter, friend to attract ignorant people to their high gas prices from other parts of the city. It amounts to a conspiracy to keep prices high. I've posted true prices only to see the price at a particular station changed to a lower level five minutes later time after time. Prices just don't go up or down that fast. It all sucks, a good idea fallen victim to greedy corporations and their franchises. Screw Gas Buddy.

In fact, many times I have driven into a station expecting to pay one price and it turns out to be higher. I agree with someone who said it should be illegal. This means people who don't have enough money to be approved for a credit card, are penalized for it!

The truck stops always advertise both prices on their signs. The stations on First Nations reserves have to charge add on fuel taxes to gas sold to non-natives, so if you show up without cash and you're not a band member, expect to pay more than the posted price. I have wondered which price I should report for diesel at the few truck stops that have separate cash and credit prices. I usually report the cash price, which is lower What do users want to see?

Wait is longer for the pump, while drivers have to go inside and queue up to pay their cash. Worse is when they fill up and need to go back in for their change. How do these guys make money on the reduced volume? I really hate it when the low cash price gets posted and I drive out of my way only to find the credit price is a dime higher. Last I knew MC and VISA required all of their merchants to offer same price for cash or credit. How do gas stations get away with it?

I work fairly close to home, but I try to peruse the gas stations within a reasonable-mile radius. Out of the maybe 15 that I notice, I think It's about 6 that have different prices. It IS because of the Dodd-Frank act that changes the amount of exchange fees card companies can charge businesses. When they changed that, it also became legal to charge customers a fee for using their card. I will not SHOP at a gas station that posts 2 different prices & I don't post their prices on Gas Buddy either. It's 2013!!! Plastic is quickly becoming the way of the world! I am lucky if I even have $5 cash on me, let ALONE enough to fill my tank. Even my GYM has me sign in with a pin code & a fingerprint!! But the GAS station is going to further gouge me not ONLY by arbitrarily raising prices, but then punish me for following the paperless status quo? I think not.

I always report the credit price as I think too it is kind of deceptive to report to lower cash price. I do also put that it is the credit price in the remarks. I find that most people do report the cash price though, which makes it hard to compare prices at stations that have different prices.

For example, Dodge's Chicken charges 2¢ a gallon more for credit on gasoline and 6¢ a gallon more on diesel. And a co-op does a 3¢ discount for cash on all grades. About a half-dozen other stations discount cash for diesel only, almost always 6¢. The rest are same for cash/credit across all grades.
