"Some Notes about Rising Gas Prices. " Great comment

by KhelbenArunson  Mar 26, 2014

dlemma, You must be from Texas. First of all, I don't care how much they pay in Europe. I really only care about how much Citizens of the USA have to pay. Secondly, Those costs you are talking about are called costs of doing business. Unfortunately, I know better. The bulk of those costs that you brought up have went down not up over the years as Big Oil learned to streamline its processes. I know for a fact that up until the early 2000's gas was regulated, and those prices were around 99 cents a gallon for YEARS. Those regulations existed because Big Oil has been caught with there hands in the cookie jar before. Back in the 70's. That was when those regulations were put into place. I also know that Big Oil was making money back then, and that is why they are still in business. The fact is over the last decade and 3 years they have STOLEN TRILLIONS of DOLLARS from American Citizens. There HIGH pricing has driven our economy into recession / depression multiple times over that de

If you want to talk about ridiculous gas prices, look to Europe. We pay chicken feed compared to them. People have NO idea how much money is spent to get the first drop of oil. You don't just run out and dig a well. There are massive geological studies to pay for (and new, more expensive technology is being developed all the time). There are surveyors and landmen, going through courthouse records, wills, recorded leases, etc. before they get to the point of determining landowners and lease holders to pay. Then, there is the drilling of the well, and constant upkeep, as well as either developing new plants to process the oil or gas, establishing pipelines from them to existing pipelines etc. There is the constant upkeep and cathodic protection on the lines. I won't even go into the THOUSANDS of EPA regulations all along this chain that companies must hire EPA experts to help them navigate those waters. There are BLM issues to contend with. So, when you go to the pump and pay $

Some Notes about Rising Gas Prices. here is some math that should tick you off. If they raise the price of gas for us at the pump 15 cents per gallon, and the overage consumer puts in just 12 gallons of gas, then big oil is basically stealing an extra $1.80 out of your wallet every time you fill up. Doesn't seem to bad right? Until you figure that there are over 250 million people in this country and if just 100 million of them fill up then that is $18 Million Dollars a DAY they are stealing from our economy. which is $6,570,000,000 a YEAR! That is just at 15 cents per gallon. Now consider that until 2001 gas was ALMOST ALWAYS LESS than $1.50 per gallon. Now gas is consistently over $3.50 per gallon. that means YOU are paying an extra $24 for that same 12 gallons of gasoline, and the USA is producing a SURPLUS of OIL. Which also means that Big Oil is now stealing $240,000,000 a DAY from the american economy. This is why the commodities futures change act of 2001 needs to be complete
